June 2005

Ok, I know its been a long while, however we finally have a whole series of new reviews and bars for you to visit. Check out our new Sydney Road review. Each review will be added to our "Reviews so far" section. Sydney Road has come a long way over the last few years and I think you'll be surprised with the quality of the venues now appearing along this much under-rated strip. See you there!

October 2004

The Melbourne Oktoberfest was cancelled this year due to renovation work at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. The show will be back on again next year - keep an eye on happyhour.com.au or melboctfest.com for next years date. Of course you don't have to wait for 2005 to roll around to celebrate Oktoberfest, you could just visit one of the many European styled bars and pubs popping up around Melbourne. You could try a bier at the European Bier Cafe at 120 Exhibition Street.

Here's an interesting one for you. Skip the bar hopping for one night in October and wander on down to the "International Whiskey Experience". It's a free event that you need to register for and features Jamesons Irish Whiskey, Chivas Regal and Wild Turkey Bourbon. You'll learn how whiskey is made and even better, learn from experience the difference between the very different styles. See you there! http://www.whiskeyexperience.com.au/

September 2004

Keep an eye on this site, we have heaps of new reviews and new bars for you to check out coming soon...

July 2004

Ok. This is it. Have finally got to putting up some promotions for you all. Rush over to the Promotions page and check out what's coming up in Melbourne.

May 2004

Hello again! I know it seems to have been an age since I last posted an update. I can assure you, I have maintained the vigil and am visiting as many local bars and clubs as possible. All in the name of research of course. While you are here, why not click on over to The Deanery. I can assure you those wonderful wines and delightful dishes will have you coming back. If you are contemplating your burgeoning wine collection requires a bigger home, The Deanery can help you there too!. You can drink from their selection or choose one from your own collection right in heart of the CBD!

It would seem now that Absinthe is in every bar and club worth its salt. The content of your current drink should be thoroughly 42Below. The first bottle was sold way back in 99 after beginning in a garage beneath the Long White Cloud of New Zealand. Far from being a one person distillery now, you can find 42Below vodkas in only the finest bars of Melbourne. If you haven't sampled the delights of Feijoa Vodka, then I suggest you rush to get one. Try Chaise Lounge in Queen Street.

June 2003

Check out this updated story on Absinthe. After all these years Absinthe is still creating a stir - if you haven't tried it yet, I suggest you get into a bar that serves it and find out what the fuss is all about.

Speaking of fuss... its that time again. Time for yet another happyhour party. This time Ben "super reviewer" is having a little get together for his birthday. As usual it promises to be a big one and your very own personalised invitation is right here...

Just them you're on Ben's List!

Print the invitation or just turn up to Amber Lounge (from 5.30pm) and tell them that you're on Bens Guest List. You and your friends will be treated to a great night! For more details head to the promotions page (by clicking the link on the left) and select your invitation!

Don't forget, to be kept up to date on future promotions and giveaways, drop an email to subscribe @ happyhour.com.au and we'll keep you informed.

Thursday 6th February

Hopefully you've now taken to heart the New Years resolution suggested last month and are seeking out new and interesting locations to wet your whistle. I can assure you that all of us here at HappyHour are certainly keeping up to our promise. So this month I can tell you that there is an all new and all exciting new bar you must check out. See below for our new flavour of the month and promise yourself to go check it out the next time you're in the city...

Happy New Year to you all. Here's a New Years resolution for you. Forget the same old resolutions of giving up smoking and losing those few extra kilos. This time around promise yourself something you can achieve. This year plan to get out to more bars and clubs. Don't just stick to the tried and true, find something new. And importantly let happyhour know about your discoveries.

December 2002

Those of you who attended the HappyHour Christmas party I'm certain would have had a fabulous night. Yours truly definitely did, even managed to lose a new phone and almost lost the camera! Check out some of the photos from the night.

Silly season is well and truly upon us once again and if you're not out there making the most of the awesome Melbourne bar scene then you should be. Don't just go to your favourite - go out and find something new - bars are everywhere in Melbourne, you just need to look for them. Then send us your thoughts!

Last update made was December 30th. We have a new bar of the month. Once again we stumbled across this one on the way to another bar.

If you still think Smith Street is a dump then its time you revisited the area. I've had the good fortune to spend a little time there recently and have found some amazing new bars. You can start by perusing Part 1 of our Smith Street review. We were going to complete the review in its entirety before submitting it to you, however there is just way too much drinking to be done in Melbourne!

Here's an interesting read on a drink called Absinthe. You can buy Absinthe at The Loft or Club UK. The Loft will even get you to sign a book after drinking it... it didn't look like a legal disclaimer... at least they didn't tell me it was a disclaimer. I couldnt read much afterwards anyway...

Details:
Typical of Melbourne, the best bars are the hardest to find. And true to happyhour form we found this one on the way to another bar! If you can find the doorway follow the stairs up to the second level. Believe me the result is worth the effort.

This place reeks of style and the service is excellent... if I were to make a brash claim, then it would be that this is a fair chance for the title of "Bar of the Year"

Scotch and cola come served in a generous sized tumbler with an excellent mix. You wont find any beers on tap, however I'm sure you will find something to your taste in the fine selection of local and imported bottled beers or even in the vast array of spirits. If you are still unsure, trust yourself to peruse the impressive if not substantial drink list. Once you've had the chance to browse the list, try to convince yourself you won't be back to sample the Cocktail Hours!

Toilets can be a little hard to find, but once you've navigated the steps (someone always trips!) you'll find the restrooms continue the style and class.
